My rough opening is too short, can you cut down the pocket frame?

Yes, you can cut down both built up and knock down units.

For cutting down a Built Up: cut off the top, equal parts off the nail strips, steel, and the back.

For cutting down a Knock Down: cut the steel at the bottom (opposite end of the holes used to attach the uprights to the header.)

I bought the wrong size built up pocket frame, can I cut the width of the unit?

Yes. You do not need to bother buying another size, you can simply cut the pocket frame to the desired size.

Can a built-up pocket door frame be cut down to a special size door width?

Yes, but with a little more work than a knock-down frame.

Basket: (Example if cutting a 2/4 (28”) pocket door frame to fit 2/2 (26”) door then cut 2” off back end of horizontal battens)

  1. Cut all horizontal battens down from back side and then re-attach the “2” back” to basket (A)
  2. Re-attach floor plate on bottom batten

Header:

  1. Remove track and cut 2” off each end of the track, this way holes will align back with screw/holes (B)
  2. Cut off equal amount, off both ends of header. (Example if cutting a 28” pocket door frame to fit 26” door, then cut 2” off both ends of header) (C)
  3. Re-attach track to header

Continue to assemble pocket door frame per the instructions.
